Founded by Tommy Boy Records CEO and chairman, Tom Silverman, the seminar began in 1984 and featured then little known artist Madonna and has catapulted the careers of others since then. The seminar continues today and tomorrow, with tomorrow’s closing event announcing the winner of the “Artist on the Verge” competition. Tonight’s event is the “Artist on the Verge” finals, with live performances by newcomers Comic Book Heroes, Hotspur and Yonas. Check the link for registration details, schedules and view photos from last night’s opening hosted by Margaret Cho, with performances Naughty By Nature, Mickey Factz, Kat De Luna and Grammy-nominated Latino ska band, CuCu Diamante. Music: Jesse Boykins III – B4 The Night Is Thru [Produced by Machine Drum]
I’d like to thank everyone that came out this past Friday to celebrate my birthday aka G-Day. It was a wonderful evening of laughter, drinks and music. I’d like to thank Larry & David @ Santos for being such great hosts. Chad & Promise for holding down the door like they always do. The GFCnewyork family for their commitment and loyalty over the years. And The Black Apple for reminding us why everyone comes here to pursue their passions and dreams. This story is only beginning…

Last Tuesday, Mickey Factz dropped by to announce his new deal with Battery/Jive Records to DJ Tony Touch and the Toca Tuesdays audience. Apparently Tony overheard Mickey feeling confident about being put on the spot, so Tony made him freestyle twice. Mickey definitely stepped up to the challenge. Click HERE & HERE for the freestyle.
